Quinoa Porridge Recipe

With this quinoa porridge recipe you’ll be happier than the wee little bear of Goldilocks fame.

Why? Well, it’s obvious that some of us have a soft spot in our hearts for porridge. Porridge is a working-class dish. But this humble meal has managed to find its way into even the wealthiest of homes.

And that’s a nice story. But why would you want to eat it? I mean, wouldn’t oatmeal do the trick and maybe even cost less?

Ah, but this is what puts the “healthy” into quinoahealthylife.com! Oats are a lot like wheat. Why? Because these two grains both contain the dreaded protein known as gluten.

Quinoa on the other hand? Gluten-free, my dear friend!

So put aside the oats and wheat for a moment and let’s get to our quinoa porridge recipe! We’ll take a look at the ingredients first!

Quinoa Porridge Recipe Ingredients

  • ½ Cup Quinoa

  • 3 Cups Water

Simple! I like that.

Let’s see if it gets any harder from here with the directions...

Quinoa Porridge Recipe Directions

  1. Put all in a medium soup pot and bring to a boil

  2. Simmer on low, uncovered 40 minutes, or until it looks like most of the liquid is absorbed

This is easy as easy can be, friend. Surely you can give this humble recipe a try.

If you’re up for more of a challenge, let me suggest a few variations and additions you could make to this recipe...

Spice it up!

Add grated carrots

So after we cooked up our quinoa porridge, we stirred in some grated carrots and let it sit, covered for a few minutes.

Add cinnamon/stevia

Then we sprinkled our own special cinnamon and stevia mix on top of it. Here’s the recipe for that…

  • 2 Tbs Ground Cinnamon

  • 2 Scoops Stevia

We put these ingredients into on old spice container with the little sprinkle openings on top.

The stevia and cinnamon can settle in different proportions throughout the container. So you want to shake it before use.

Add chilled coconut milk

Last of all -- since we don’t use dairy -- we topped our porridge with a dollop of chilled coconut milk.

We used Golden Star brand from Walmart. Put in the blender and chill in the fridge overnight for best results!
