People these days want to know how to say quinoa in Hindi. It’s no surprise that this once-obscure crop has made a name for itself all around the world!
Starting out in South America, quinoa’s notoriety has spread to the great nation of India.
And the people of India want to be able to pronounce quinoa in their own language. For many, that’s Hindi.
So let’s talk about…
Quinoa isn’t a grain, though many people like to call it a super-grain.
It’s actually a seed, grown typically in the Andes Mountains of South America.

Hindi is one of the official languages of India. In 1991 there were 180 million people who spoke Hindi. That means it’s the 6th most popular language in the world.
In English -- as I’m using here -- we use the Roman alphabet (a,b,c, etc.). Hindi is different. Hindi is written using the Devanagari alphabet.
So most English speakers can’t recognize it. It’s Greek -- or Devanagari -- to them!
Now that you know some of the details about both quinoa and the Hindi language, let’s figure out how to say quinoa in the Hindi language.
Until this point, not many Hindi-speakers have wondered how to say quinoa in Hindi.
Quinoa has been leading a quiet life in South America, thousands of miles away from the people who speak the Hindi language.
But now that quinoa has become so popular -- for all the reasons we listed above -- Hindi speakers want to know how to pronounce and spell it in their language.
Now, there is no word for quinoa in Hindi. So the best we can do is to transliterate it into the Devanagari script.
